Media equipment guide – update

The Media equipment guide (the binder by the workstations) now has a section with reference guides for all the cables and adapters (the HDMI/USB/Mac adapters/Firewire/VGA bins in the cabinet.)

Feel free to refer to it when patrons ask to see what cables and adapters we have (instead of having to bring out all the bins.)

I’ll be going over it with everyone in person next week.

Note: This section of the binder is still a work in progress, so any feedback or suggestions to improve it are definitely welcome!

Media Equipment – visual guides

The following media equipment kits now have laminated visual reference guides inside the boxes/cases:
1) Lavalier mics
2) GoPros
3) HD cameras
4) Shotgun (uni-directional) mics

For the kits that are currently checked out (which don’t have these guides yet), I’ll be adding them as they come in.

Please refer to these guides when checking media equipment out and back in. I’ll be going over this with everyone in person this next week.

I also created binder with all of these guides, which you can find by the Student Assistant stations. It’s green and labeled “Media Equipment Guide.” Here you’ll find all of the ones listed above (in case the ones in the kits get lost), and also a visual guide for the NI myDAQs.

Guard Incident

Dear Library Faculty and Staff:

A community user was charged with battery against our security guard in an incident that occurred late last night in the library. As far as we know, our guard sustained no long-term injuries. The community user has been issued with an order to stay off campus for 7 days and a University Police investigation is underway. The university will be issuing a statement soon. Please provide my contact information to anyone who asks for more information at any of our public desks: sbaird@mail.sdsu.edu, 594-2530.

Media equipment page – update

Hi everyone, a few updates have been made to the media equipment page:

https://library.sdsu.edu/media/borrow-media-equipment

1) Some items (cameras, audio gear, and projector) now have info links directly underneath the links where you can check their availability. Feel free to use these links for when patrons want a little more information on what brands and models we have.

2) Toward the bottom, a new section has been added for Overdue Fine Amounts. Depending on the loan periods, different items (Media materials, media reserves, and media equipment) have different fine amounts. Please refer to this when patrons ask about potential fines for items turned in late.

iPads Update

When scanning iPads out, please remind patrons to not set passcodes for them. All iPads should now have a pop-up note in Alma with this reminder. I’ve also created a public note for these items, so patrons should be able to see this when looking for them in OneSearch.

In case patrons still create their own log-in passcodes, please drop the iPads off in my office and I’ll reset them.
