When someone is nice enough to bring you pie, you should show your gratitude by washing your dishes!
There were dirty dishes everywhere, even left on the table – that’s kinda mean

Hold books – cubby vs hold shelf
There are two different kinds of holds:
1) users place holds on books and media through the online catalog. When the item is returned or found we check it in, a pick up notice is emailed to the requester and we put the book on the hold shelf, alphabetical by user’s name. This is all done electronically through the system.
2) an informal hold that bypasses the online system completely – we hold items for users who cannot for some reason (maybe they don’t have an id or owe money) check out in real time. A blue ‘cubby hold’ slip with user name is filled out with the date and staff initials and items on put on the ‘cubby hold’ shelves (last row of shelves to the right of the Circ desk) using day three days in future. Rubberband multiple books together.
There is another row of shelves labeled ‘holds’ – that row is for other departments to deposit books that are on hold, or for you to put a book that you’ve just checked in that comes up as ‘on hold’.
Please ask questions if this is confusing

Interlibrary Loan fines now block circulation
If Library users have overdue fines or billed books on their record they are now blocked from putting in ILL requests. You may get calls from users regarding this change; please forward the calls to one of the Circ staff.
Map-It lab opens
The Map IT Studio (LL 243) will officially open for business Friday, 3/3/17.
Map IT is the Library’s data analysis and visualization studio, and it offers access to tools such as ArcGIS, QGIS, R, Python, SPSS, SAS, Photoshop, Illustrator, and more.
The space will be open the same hours as the Library, and anyone can use the computers as long as they have a Red ID and Library PIN.
Map IT will not be staffed, so anyone who needs help can email LibraryMapIT@mail.sdsu.edu. There will be an open house in the next few weeks. Any questions should be directed to Jordan Nielsen @ 594-0339
VITA Tax assistance
There is tax preparation assistance available in the northwest corner of the Library Computing Hub (the corner next to Build IT) every Friday from 02/17/17 until 04/14/17 (except 03/31/17–the week of spring break). The hours of operation will be 12 pm to 6 pm. While they will accept walk-ins, clients with appointments will receive priority.
There are handouts available on top of the desensitizers
Book Eye
Just FYI, the book-eye scanner on the 1st floor by the Chicano Collection is out of order.
Book returning instructions
Users who want to return their checked out Library books are being confused by incomplete or vague instructions. Users are putting their books on some random book truck and causing all kinds of problems…
Be EXPLICIT when telling people where to return books – tell them EXACTLY where they can find a book return, like ’20 paces down this hallway, on the right, you should see a book return on the wall. It says Book Return’. Or ‘out that door in the Dome, just to the right before the stairs’. We’ll see about putting up a sign in the Donor Hall, but until then please be clear in your instructions.
Valentine’s Day Drawing – Contest entry box
There’s a special competition for V-Day and the entry box is on a little table right next to the Circ desk entrance. Copies of the ‘hard copy’ of the drawing are piled next to the entry box. Handouts with more info are available up at the desk
Put returned books on carts
All returned Course Reserve books must be put on the Reserve return truck immediately. Do not hold books at the desk, even if someone plans to come back for it after turning it in. It takes literally 4 seconds to put a returned Course Reserve book on the book truck, so please do so even if you are taking care of a line
